Getting Started: Hook, Line, and Sinker

In Matthew 4:18-19 of the Holy Bible, Jesus asks us to go fishing. In order to fish, you must have the proper pole and tackle to do the job. QuickPlans give you the tackle you need to help you be a better fisherman. The lessons are divided into three distinct sections we call “Hook, Line, and Sinker”.

HOOK
Children are motivated by purpose. There must be a reason for learning. Something about the lesson must captivate the children’s attention and make them eager to learn. The job of the “Hook” is to set the purpose and give the children a reason to pay attention. Every QuickPlan lesson begins with a “Hook” that provides a little tease and helps the learner make connections between the lesson and daily living. Sometimes the hook can be filled with humor; other times somber and serious.

LINE
The “Line” contains the primary content of the lesson and brings the learner to a place where current issues are compared with Biblical principles through role-play. Students will examine how God’s Word provides the guidance we need to grow in faith and relationship with Christ and others. The teacher’s becomes the “director” and the children become active characters in the role-play.

SINKER
The “Sinker” provides opportunity for life-changing decision. Learning more about God and His Word involves more than memorizing scripture and studying principles. God desires us to not just be hearers of the Word; He wants us to also be doers of the Word. The “Sinker” challenges students to make a commitment to become doers of the principles they learn. Without a “Sinker” the lesson cannot be complete. Don’t we teach to bring about life-change? Failure to offer an opportunity to commit to a change defeats the purpose of the learning experience.
